Exciting GRILL + CHOWDER news!! Shayok Misha Chowdhury and I were awarded a 2021 Jonathan Larson Grant for our body of work. The prize was given to us and four other recipients by the American Theatre Wing. The award includes a performance as part of the Larson Legacy Series at Jonathan’s alma mater, Adelphi University. We are so honored to be included in this group of exquisite artists and humbled to be associated with the most singular Jonathan Larson.
I am so proud to be part of this incredible project and to share the stage with such an inspiring collection of voices. The concert features my MIT Vocal Jazz Ensemble as well as a few of my arrangements!
An expansive two-year project culminates in an immersive multimedia event at MIT’s Kresge Hall. Three leading jazz artists of our time (Terri Lyne Carrington, Braxton Cook, and Sean Jones) were asked to compose large-scale works for MIT musicians on the overall theme of racial justice. By bringing together members of MIT’s academic and non-academic communities with renowned musicians and multimedia artists, It Must Be Now! intends to build a coalition promoting heightened awareness and change.
